The Messaging, Malware and Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG) is pleased to announce the completion of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between M3AAWG and the Africa Computer Emergency Response Team (AfricaCERT). The MOU was signed in late December 2023 and sets the stage for a strategic partnership to benefit both organizations.
AfricaCERT and M3AAWG recognize a range of common issues affecting the global Internet and seek to work more closely to raise awareness of these issues and their effects.
The two organizations will collaborate in the development of the African Anti-Abuse Working Group (AF-AAWG), a group dedicated to providing education and resources for African Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs), mobile operators, and research and education networks.
“Our objective is to develop regional expertise in combating abuse, conducting anti-abuse research, creating best current practices (BCPs), convening anti-abuse stakeholders, and promoting and implementing anti-abuse norms and principles,” said the Co-Founder of AfricaCERT, Jean-Robert Hountomey.
“Partnerships with organizations like AfricaCERT are truly at the heart of M3AAWG’s mission. We seek these opportunities to collaborate and share best practices to have a global impact in the fight against online abuse,” said M3AAWG’s Executive Director, Amy Cadagin.
M3AAWG seeks global partnerships that are built on mutual respect and benefit to realize greater efficiency and impact when collaborating on anti-abuse methods. The MOU with AfricaCert is an example of the collaboration necessary to meet our vision: a world free of online abuse.
